PRAYER OF HEALING

we confess that we have not always followed in your path.

We declare we have hope and faith in you but, at times,

our hearts are touched with despair.

We are called to share your gift of love, but,

at times we have hoarded your gifts for our own benefit.

Loving God, we pray that as you journey with us,

you will set us on your path.

Free us from the power of the distractions, biases,

and prejudice of this world that separates us from you.

We offer in prayer now, these situations that keep us from walking fully with You.

 Prayer/silent meditation

WORDS OF GRACE AND COMFORT

Members of the Body of Christ,

once more we have shared in the mystery of grace.

We are renewed, freed from the world’s limitations.

Our hearts have been opened to God’s presence.

We are reminded once again that we are God’s

beloved children.

May we go out and share God’s blessing.

Thanks be to God for these words of grace and comfort.  Amen

STATEMENT ON ANTI-LGBTQIA+ BILL IN UGANDA

The United Church of Canada joins with other civil society organizations in Canada to denounce the anti-LGBTQIA+ bill that passed recently in Uganda. The time to support LGBTQIA+ allies and activists in Uganda is now. Gender and sexuality are gifts of God. The United Church of Canada opposes discrimination against anyone, for any reason, that results in someone’s worth being devalued. The work of justice is about how we treat people in the world, so we work to end all forms of discrimination. We urge the Canadian government to continue sharing its concern about the bill to President Museveni. Further, Canada should appoint a Special Envoy for LGBTQIA+ human rights to coordinate international efforts with other countries, including Argentina, France, and the United States, that have also taken a position. We expect that there will be refugees fleeing Uganda because of this bill. We urge Canada to improve pathways for LGBTQIA+ activists and community members who may need to flee their countries for safety. Currently, only about 0.1 percent of Canadian international assistance goes toward supporting LGBTQIA+ human rights. This amount should increase; more Canadian international assistance and humanitarian aid should be going to organizations committed to inclusion and supporting LGBTQIA+ human rights. We support the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Rainbow Railroad, Equitas, The Equality Fund, and African Centre for Refugees, all members of Dignity Network Canada, as they work with partners in Uganda to amplify the messages from the community. And we call on the Canadian government to urgently implement these calls for action.

 PRIDE WEEK|JUNE 11-18

There is so much to be thankful for at this time of year. Not only is June a time to come together as a community to support and continue the struggle for 2SLGBTQQIAAP+ Rights and Freedoms in our own backyard and around the world, but also to honour the history, knowledge, oral traditions, and contributions of Indigenous People on Turtle Island for National Indigenous History Month. This year, our local Pride Committee is excited to bring you a week of Lloyd Pride 2023 celebrations starting on June 11 and continuing until June 18. We kick off Pride Week next Sunday with the Annual Pride Walk and Pride in the Park sponsored by Cenovus Energy, Synergy Credit Union and CO-OP, followed by the All Ages Pride Ride Bike-a-Thon in support of Lloydminster and Vermilion for Equity (Monday, June 12), a Rainbows 'n Glitter Sober Social Evening and Dance in support of Residents in Recovery in the Grace United Church Hall (Tuesday, June 13), Pride Family Movie Night sponsored by Grace United Church (Wednesday, June 14), Drag BINGO at the Sticks Billiards and Lounge (Thursday, June 15), a Family "Play at the Park" and nature craft event at Bud Miller picnic area playground (Friday, June 16), the annual Lloyd Pride 2023 Drag Showcase on the Vic Juba Community Theatre main stage (Saturday, June 17), and finally the Slay the Day Youth Performing Arts Showcase in the Black Box Theatre at Lakeland College (Sunday, June 18). For more information, tickets, and timings for these wonderful events, please visit @LGBTQLloyd on Facebook, or email me at gucjensonbrown@gmail.com. I hope you all have a blessed week and look forward to seeing many of you during Lloyd Pride 2023!

 GRAD SUNDAY |JUNE 18|GUC

Do you know of anyone who will be graduating from Highschool this year? We would like to offer a little celebration for the youth who are taking this most important step in their life journey. We need your help, so no one is missed. Please comment on the Friendship Forms in the church pews or speak to Cathy or Bev if you know of a graduate this June.

As beloved children of God, all are included in the life and ministry of

the Grace Family where diversity is celebrated.

Grace remembers, as we celebrate God’s presence in worship,

that Grace United Church gathers on Treaty 6 land,

the traditional territory of the Plains, Wood Cree, Assiniboine and Métis peoples.

As Treaty people,

we seek to live with respect on this land and live in peace and friendship with all our relations.
