WE OFFER OURSELVES TO GOD

PRAYER OF HEALING

Ever-Providing God, you call us to trust you in every circumstance of our lives,
yet far too often, we do not.
In times of struggle and frustration, we lose hope in our future.
When enduring natural disasters, suffering illness, or facing death,
we often grow bitter and forget your love.
Stripped of our stuff, our wealth and status, we try in vain to control our lives.
Eager to be powerful and successful, we wander away from you,

falling into addiction, blind ambition and living beyond our means.
Absorbed by our wants and desires,
we are blind to those around us who really need our care.
Hear us as we ask you in prayer to soften our bitterness that comes from fear.

Turn our hearts to you,
so we might trust - living into the fullness of life you promise.

(Time for silent prayer and meditation)

 WORDS OF GRACE AND COMFORT

God’s loving presence never leaves us, not even when we turn away from God.
God offers and answers with honour.

We are refreshed with grace to live in new ways as God’s people. Thanks be to God.

YOUTH CONFIRMATION l SEPT 27 TO NOV 29 l 6:30 - 8:30 PM| GRADE 10 & BEYOND

What is confirmation?

The continuation of Christian growth which began at baptism.

In confirmation, we remember our Baptism, renew our covenant (promises) that our

parents made for us when we were baptized.

Confirmation is not only an opportunity for us to “confirm” our commitment to God and

the Church, it is

      - an opportunity to continue to learn and grow in faith, your understanding of God,

        Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

      - a time to look into the Bible and talk about how it is relevant in today’s world.

      - an opportunity to develop some tools that will help you come closer to God.

      - a time to learn about the gifts God has given you and how you will use them in

        the world to serve another.

     - learning about worship, social justice and service.

      - a way to get to know more people in the church and community.

      - experimentation, friendship in action, a safe place to make mis-takes.

      - a committed time for the church community and God to publicly and visibly

“confirm” their commitment to you, as a part of the whole people of God.

Please speak to Rev. Cathy if you are interested in being a part of youth confirmation.

We will meet  from Mid-September to mid-November. This will include an overnight retreat at the church.

THE PICKUPS| OCT 16 & NOV 20|9:30 AM SANCTUARY

Do you play an instrument or want to share your singing voice with the congregation?  Our Pick-Up group might be right for you.  The Pick-Ups is a worship band that once a month helps to lead the music before and during the regular Sunday service.  As the name suggests, these members just pick up their instruments and rehearse before the service.  A variety of instruments show up on any given Pick-Up Sunday (piano, guitar, bass guitar, banjo, drums, guitar, flute, clarinet, hand percussion, ukulele and vocalists.)

This group welcomes instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages who want to use their talents to praise our maker and who feel comfortable performing.  Interested persons should be able to spend some time rehearsing individually prior to Pick-Up Sunday.

Upcoming Pick-Up Sundays:  October 16th, November 20th. For more information contact Brenda Ellison @ brenda.ellison36@gmail.com of 780-871-4791.

ORANGE SHIRT DAY |SEPT 30|12:15 PM|SANCTUARY

Grace United will be marking Orange Shirt Day on Friday, September 30th from 12:15-12:45 pm in the Sanctuary.

All are welcome to attend this quiet, meditative time.  Please consider wearing an Orange shirt to remember and honoring Indigenous children who were taken from their homes, families and communities to residential institutions.

This year, Indigenous communities across the country continue to share the truth they have always known: that many of the children who never returned home remain on the grounds of those institutions in unmarked burial sites.  These communities are now seeking to honour the missing children.

On Orange Shirt Day we also observe the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

For non-Indigenous Christians in particular, this is a time to reflect on their role in colonialism and the ongoing responsibility to make reparations.

Why Orange?

Phyllis Jack Webstad from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation went to St. Joseph Mission Residential School.  On her first day of school, Phyllis wore an orange shirt that her grandmother had given her.  It was immediately taken away, and that marked the beginning of Phyllis’s long separation from her family and community, a separation caused by actions of the church and federal government.

Orange Shirt Day is a time for us to remember those events and their ongoing impact.

NEXT SUPER SUNDAY| October 23|GUC|SANCTUARY/HALL

Worship, Playschool families, Super Sunday school and lunch for all

As beloved children of God, all are included in the life and ministry of the Grace Family

where diversity is celebrated.

Grace remembers, as we celebrate God’s presence in worship,

that Grace United Church gathers on Treaty 6 land,

the traditional territory of the Plains, Wood Cree, Assiniboine and Métis peoples. As Treaty people,

we seek to live with respect on this land and live in peace and friendship with all our relations.
